Denis Culley
Staff Attorney for Legal Services for the Elderly
5 Wabon Street
Augusta ME 04330
Mr. Culley was Leol Corson's free attorney and through multiple opportunities, choose not to end a frivolous lawsuit. Instead he lost the case for his client who has a history of cruelty, family conflict and deceit!
Denis Culley market's himself as an expert in Elder law, providing education and insight to many attendees of his webinars or conferences. We'd like to highlight a few snippets of his own webinars, to illustrate his own hypocrisy throughout the Corson vs. Beck lawsuit.
Let's begin with the following slide from one of his webinars, showing the goal of "Let's Get Grandpa's House Back!"
It's interesting that despite these remarks, Denis Culley's first words during our mediation conference where:
"Leol has no interest in getting his house back."
Failed Settlement Despite Our Best Efforts
We would have preferred to settle, but Leol refused to do so. Let's compare Leol's mediation statement submitted August 17, 2018 to the court:
“There are no specific proposals for resolution extant at the moment…” Page 3 of Mediation Statement. Dated August 17, 2018.
Then in contrast, please compare what the Beck's submitted to the court on August 21, 2018:
“Options could include… (a) transferring the bristol property back to Leol with Leol refinancing the mortgage, either on his own or with a third-party co-signer; (b) transferring the Bristol property back to Leol with Leol assuming the mortgage debt and Jill and Jacob being released from liability thereon; (c) sale of the property and some reasonable division of the net sale proceeds or (d) settlement of any personal property claims”. Here is our offer of settlement, which Leol Corson and his son and daughter in law Jayson Corson and Kerstin Corson quickly refused.
It was clear they didn't want a resolution, they only wanted to create a lawsuit that was free for them, but costly to the Becks.
The Shadow Client: Someone who uses Legal Services for the Elderly as a cudgel to settle scores
The second slide that's equally interesting is Denis Culley's own recognition that family members could use his free attorney services "as a cudgel to exact revenge or settle old scores".
Yet despite the clear evidence of the motivations behind this lawsuit, Denis Culley did nothing to address, mitigate, or stop the attack from these "shadow clients". Documents and witness testimony showed that Jayson and Kerstin Corson were behind this lawsuit, created as a way to retaliate against the Becks after Jayson and Kerstin were given eviction papers.
Culley's Audio Recordings from the Courtroom
And lastly, we have to share these audio clips during Mr. Culley's closing statements as he desperately fails at his explaining away his client's false statements in sworn testimony, Jim Gallagher's obvious representation of Leol Corson, and the many attempts by Denis Culley to block submission of audio evidence that showed Leol's own statements were untrue.
